Is It Time to Believe?

It’s not often I like watching Thierry Henry but today, watching him squirm as he was forced to admit that this Spurs team are ‘the real deal’ after the victory at the Etihad gave me a certain amount of pleasure (almost as much as the victory itself in fact). But enough of him and onto Spurs. Last time I wrote on here I was wary of saying we had a chance of the title. That was at the start of the Year. So what has happened since then?

We drew at Goodison Park in a difficult game and followed that with a draw at home against the League Leaders in the FA Cup. A couple of days later we played Leicester again in one of those quirks of English football that often throw up cup and League games in quick succession. This was a game that saw two of the best teams in the Premier League go toe to toe and we came out of that with a defeat we did not deserve.

So far, not the form of potential champions but was that the game that gave the players the desire to disprove the knockers? Since then; Sunderland at home and the replay against Leicester at the King Power (Is it just me or is that the worst name for a stadium), Crystal Palace, Colchester United Norwich (all away), Watford and Now Manchester City. Seven straight wins on the trot and now everyone is starting to take notice (Even Henry).

So what of the rest of the season. Four teams still in the mix, although some are saying it’s too much for City (I’m no too sure of that myself), and 36 points still up for grabs. We all know Arsenal have a habit of finishing strongly. Leicester have no other games apart from the League to worry about. We have Thursday night football re-starting this week, Arsenal and Citeh still have European dreams (Hopefully nightmares for Arsenal but let them stay in it a bit longer) and all except Leicester are still in the FA Cup. This season still has a long way to go and it could simply come down to who blinks first.

As for us – A trip to Florence on Thursday which will be somewhat of a rest to watch. The result is not so important in a first leg so I might be able to re-grow my fingernails. Then an FA Cup game against Palace. Let’s just pray we get this over in the first game. A replay would be a real problem which could result in some fixture congestion in the coming weeks. Then it’s Fiorentina at home and hopefully we will get our revenge for last seasons defeat at their hands. This is followed by two League game against Swansea and West Ham. If we are still there after that little lot it’s the small matter of what will be the biggest North London Derby for many a year.

The belief in the team is a joy to see and now the pundits and Sports writers are joining in. Could ’16 be like it’s reverse of ’61? We shall see over the course of the next three months but is it a coincidence that in ’61 we lost games to Manchester United, Newcastle United and Leicester City?

Audere est Facere – and maybe it is now time to Believe.
